The Thimbles Summary
Business Model Generation
The book in one sentence
Any business model can be described on a single page using nine building blocks, and once it’s visible it can be challenged, redesigned and improved.
Who it's for
Founders testing an idea, managers rethinking an established business, consultants and educators, and anyone who needs to explain how an organisation creates and captures value.
The big idea
Osterwalder developed his business model concept in doctoral research supervised by Yves Pigneur at the University of Lausanne. This book turned it into a practical tool: the Business Model Canvas. It was co-created with hundreds of practitioners from dozens of countries, originally self-published, and designed to be visual, in landscape format and heavy with graphics. The argument is that business models are too often discussed in vague terms. A shared visual language lets teams describe, compare and invent models together.
