The Thimbles Summary
StrengthsFinder 2.0
The book in one sentence
You’ll grow far more by building on what you naturally do well than by trying to fix what you don’t.
Who it's for
Managers building teams, people at a career crossroads, and anyone who has sat through years of development plans focused on their weaknesses.
The big idea
Gallup’s research, led for decades by the psychologist Donald O. Clifton, suggests that people have far more room to grow in areas where they already have natural talent. Yet schools, workplaces and parents tend to focus on fixing weaknesses. Tom Rath, who worked with Clifton at Gallup, wrote this book as the companion to an updated version of the online StrengthsFinder assessment. The test identifies your top five “themes” out of 34, and the book explains what each one means and how to put it to use.
The full summary continues with the five ideas worth keeping, three things to try this week, the 5-minute deep dive and our full verdict, as a PDF to keep.
