The Thimbles Summary
Playing to Win
The book in one sentence
Strategy is not a vision statement or a long plan; it’s a small set of linked choices about where to compete and how to win there, made deliberately and backed with the right capabilities.
Who it's for

The big idea
Lafley led Procter & Gamble as chief executive through most of the 2000s, and Martin, then dean of the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto, worked alongside him as a strategy adviser. Together they set out the approach they used at P&G. Their core claim is that strategy is about choice. Winning requires committing to specific answers to five connected questions, and making those choices fit together. Many organisations avoid real choices, trying to be everything to everyone, and end up winning nowhere.
